Can this be genuine?http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/R-Lenkiewicz-SIGNED-oil-pallet_W0QQitemZ250118221981QQihZ015QQcategoryZ20132QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemIf that was actually a pallet that Robert had used, would he have signed it? Surely the only ones that could be deemed to be genuine would come via an authentic source? It seems to me that this would be so easy to fake. I know there are some genuine ones around, but Annie Hill-Smith had these and they weren't signed as I recall.Tig

It could be genuine. These second class relics were given away by Robert during his lifetime and he would sign them if pressed.

Without actually seeing it I would not be certain. The signature does not look right to me.The wording is specific as well :”signed oil pallet used by the late Plymouth artist R.O. Lenkiewicz” He may well have used it but did he sign it? The colours on the pallet look like his. I would suggest you asked some searching questions.

Actually, I'm not thinking of bidding on it! I always keep an eye out on the Lenkiewicz stuff, and this caught my eye. Really, I'm just concerned that someone else could be ripped off.

Other clues that may be helpful – the paint should have been arranged on the pallet at the top, lightest colours on the left graduating to the darkest on the right. The heavy lumps of paint would often have been flattened a little by other pallets that would have been piled on top when the pallet was discarded, consequently pieces of hardboard from the palette above would often be stuck in paint that was not fully dry.

Have you seen the recent alleged Lenkiewicz on ebay, looks very similar to a self portrait in the rogues gallery.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320119349624
