I've just had a look at the said Lenkiewicz self portrait on ebay; it doesn't do it for me. Just a gut feeling, but sometimes you just KNOW. It looks a bit like the other (via a PC screen at least) contentious one which Triton had for sale. How flattering that Lenkiewicz is now copied in this way. Also no such thing as bad PR. An authetication service would be good, but may be not quite yet…..

It was more an offer than a ‘bid’ per se; I’m also pretty new to this so can’t help you vis your query, however from what I’ve seen enthusiastic bidding can take place, but if this doesn’t result in the Reserve price being met (The Vendor’s minimum) then the item remains ‘unsold’. Hope this helps a bit.

I attended the sale on Saturday; quite a moving experience – what an extraordinary concentration of talent! Bearne’s were excellent and very ‘gentle’ with the uninitiated. I bid on the day for several Lots, but failed, bar on behalf of a friend who wanted a particular piece of furniture.
However I did ring Bearne's on Monday and rather rashly put in a bid for the above - unsold Lot 541 - the one with the stern vicar with 'real flame effect' background stained glass. Probably mad to do so, but the picture does have a certain power.

I wonder of anyone knows if the picture was part of a particular Project, when it was painted, who the vicar might be (unless a 'general vicar') and why - and is the stained glass window a real one - or a figment? Would be interested to hear form anyone who can throw some light on this one.
